French verbs are divided into three groups (conjugations), ending in -er, -ir and -re.

Here is the present tense of three regular verbs, one from each conjugation. A hyphen has been inserted only so that you can see the endings more clearly :

parler finir attendre
je parl-e   je fin-is   je vend-s
tu parl-es   tu fin-is   tu vend-s
il parl-e   il fin-it   il vend
nous parl-ons   nous fin-issons   nous vend-ons
vous parl-ez   vous fin-issez   vous vend-ez
ils parl-ent   ils fin-issent   ils vend-ent

Reflexive pronouns are used when the subject and the object of the verb are identical : I saw myself in the mirror. In French these are :

me   myself nous   ourselves
te   yourself vous   yourselves
se   himself, herself, itself   se   themselves

  • te is informal, when talking to one person.
  • vous is used when talking to more than one person or to one person you do not know well.

Note that te and se become s' and t' before a word beginning with a vowel : il s'est blessé he's hurt himself.
